Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information Grand County Criminal History receives during a visit, why that information may be used, and the limited situations in which it may reach another service. Continuing to browse or use the website means that you accept the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider operating that tool so it can process the request and display results. Grand County Criminal History does not keep or log those query terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be retained long enough to review and answer it. The message is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Basic technical details may be recorded when a page loads:

  • The device's internet protocol address
  • Browser name, browser version, operating system, and device type
  • Pages viewed and the approximate time spent on them
  • The referring website, when that information is available
  • The date and time attached to a page request

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files that can help measure visits, popular pages, and where readers leave the website. Analytics providers may combine those signals into traffic reports. A browser can block or remove cookies, though some site behavior may change when they are disabled.

What We Do With This Data

  • Operate the website and keep pages loading reliably
  • Route a search request to the selected outside provider
  • Understand which pages readers use
  • Diagnose security, availability, and technical faults
  • Support advertising that may reflect general interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Grand County Criminal History does not build, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies access routes at the Grand County Sheriff, Utah Courts, the Utah Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Identification, and the Utah Sex, Kidnap, and Child Abuse Offender Registry/Notification website. Visitor data is not assembled into criminal profiles or consumer reports. Utah Code §53-10-108 governs BCI dissemination and a person's access to their own Utah record; it does not turn this private reference site into a government repository.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power some search boxes. A query submitted through one of those tools is subject to that company's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices. Grand County Criminal History cannot control those policies. Review the provider's terms before sending a search.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Grand County offices, Utah Courts, BCI, the state registry, legal resources, or outside search providers. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read that policy before providing personal data.

Advertising services may use their own technologies to measure visits across sites or select ads. That processing occurs on their systems.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold by Grand County Criminal History. Limited information may be handled by:

  • Search partners that process a query submitted to them
  • Analytics vendors that report site traffic and performance
  • Advertising networks that serve or measure ads
  • Government or law-enforcement authorities responding to a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard security measures are used to protect information in our control. No internet service can promise absolute security. Those measures reduce risk but cannot guarantee that an incident will never occur.

Users Under 18

This website is intended for adults and does not knowingly seek personal information from anyone under 18. If data from a minor is identified, a request may be made for its deletion.

Your Data Rights

Rights vary with a visitor's location and the law that applies. Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act, Utah Code Title 63G, Chapter 2, controls access to many government records, while Utah Code §53-10-108 controls BCI criminal-history dissemination and subject access. Those government-record laws do not expand what this private site holds. Where applicable privacy law provides a right, a visitor may:

  • Request a copy of personal information held about them
  • Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Seek deletion of eligible information
  • Object to or opt out of certain processing

Updates to This Policy

This privacy policy may be revised when practices or legal duties change. A new version becomes available here with an updated effective date.
